The Way To Jerusalem

The “Way To Jerusalem” International Association is proposing as a candidate for recognition by the Council of Europe the cultural itinerary entitled:
“The Way To Jerusalem: Maritime Cultural And Pilgrimage Routes”, presenting a project that involves (with partnership agreements already concluded or currently being finalised)
countries with a coast on the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea.The proposed itinerary follows traditional pilgrimage routes towards the Holy Land.

It includes both a) flows from central and western Europe that headed to Venice and sailed from there, calling at Adriatic ports and thenjoining up with ships heading to the
Holy Land across the Mediterranean Sea from the West (Malta, Tunisia); and b) pilgrimage flows from the countries of central and eastern Europe from the Black Sea that converged off the island of Rhodes in the Mediterranean Sea. Jerusalem was the shared objective, in an epoch when the city was at the centre of the known world.
